Darren Deadbeat is a working-class, DIY musician from Nottingham, part avant-garde songsmith twisting together Post-Punk, Punk Rock, Grunge, Garage Rock and Alternative Rock, part renaissance songwriter with compelling and often off-beat lyrics. His stories mix social commentary, political satire and heartfelt introspection with a healthy dose of dark humour. Think of a sound from an alternative dimension where Bowie was a punk, Ian Dury a greasy hard rocker and Lemmy a funk soul brother.
He grew up in a corroding town thirty miles north of London in the 80s and 90s, spent the 00s in Camden’s underground, and has called Nottingham home since 2010. He’s against oligarchy, political corruption and opportunism, and the creeping grip of technofeudalism. He’s for freedom without selfishness and communities built on solidarity, not competition.
The sound is punchy and deliberately human. He rejects the overproduced, robot-injected polish of so much modern music and treats the noise made by musicians and producers in the 70s, 80s and 90s as a golden era to learn from. It’s a rallying call for human connection in a world trying to turn people into drones. This is music by a human, for other humans.
